Rezūm™ Water Vapor Therapy

Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy treats the source of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) – your enlarged prostate. This short, in-office procedure uses the natural energy stored in a few drops of water to shrink the prostate. So urine can flow freely. There are no incisions, no general anesthesia, and most patients return to regular activities within a few days.* And, it preserves sexual function.1,2

Rezūm Therapy is typically performed during one visit at your urologist’s office, or at an outpatient surgery facility. Sterile water vapor, or steam, is released throughout the targeted prostate tissue in 9-second intervals. Over time, your body’s natural healing response absorbs the treated tissue, shrinking the prostate. With the extra tissue removed, the urethra opens, reducing BPH symptoms. Most patients begin to experience symptom relief in as soon as two weeks, and maximum benefit may occur within three months.*1,2

How It Works

Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses the natural energy stored in water vapor, or steam, to remove excess prostate tissue that is pressing on the urethra.1

What Happens During Treatment with Rezūm?

In order to perform this procedure, our urologists will inject the water vapor (steam) into the targeted prostate tissue. Once injected, the steam will begin to break apart legions that have formed by destroying their cells. With the legions gone, the urinary channel is now freely open as it should be, which will gradually resolve the patient’s urinary issues.

The Rezūm System is performed entirely within your provider’s office in approximately 5 minutes or less. This simple procedure will require a few days to take full effect, during which time patients will have a catheter in place to assist in urination until anticipated swelling subsides. Three days after your treatment is performed, you will return to our urology clinic in West Palm Beach to have this catheter removed, and that’s it!

Symptoms will continue to improve for months to come, though patients typically notice the greatest effect of the Rezūm System during the first two weeks after it is implemented. This treatment is associated with only mild to moderate side effects, which generally consist of some discomfort soon after the procedure is performed. Of course, if you begin to notice any abnormal side effects or symptoms then you should contact Urologic Physicians and Surgeons, PA to have your symptoms fully evaluated as soon as possible.
